Polish Illustrators — Crush

Posted by Marta Spendowska with Share Some Thoughts!

Share/Bookmark I think it’t time to reveal my Polish illustrator crushes. The most important person has been Agata Nowicka aka Endo. The first website that introduced me to her drawings was her old comics blog, but I’m not sure if she still updates that one. Agata is really sweet and helpful, she now works with New Yorker and most of the Polish magazines. It’s such a pleasure to see her grow and create such an extensive portfolio. Loving her pixels. Yeah, have you noticed ? That digital artwork has a very distinguished look.

Another illustrator, cartoonist and graphic designer whom I admire so much is Ada Buchholc. She works with most of the prominent magazines in Poland and draws her super funny comics Dzienniki Kryzysowe. She definitelly has a love.hate relationship with herself, but deals with it in a cynical hilarious way. Strong line, mature, definite style and bold colors. Like her Facebook ...

Lady Gaga Illustration

Share/Bookmark
Today was Lady Gaga action. I think I live in the time of Gaga (btw, my mom’s nickname is Gaga and the most famous band from my home town is GaGa!), so the drawing was needed.
Done. Quite happy, but I want to do one exclusively in watercolor. This one has some gouache and digital. I hope you like it! And yes, my favorite flowers are included.

Friday roundup.

Posted by Marta Spendowska with Share Some Thoughts!

Share/BookmarkLooking Up — recent work.
Ha! It’s Friday and the sun is stubborn. Love the warmth.
First of all, I am honored and happy to be featured in Design For Mankind and Lovelogy. Sweet, brilliant ladies like my work, what else can I ask for! Thank you! I definitely like to be places next to those fantastic Studio Fludd’s necklaces and  the most gorgeous textile wall art.
I’ve been working on some nice patterns and playing with acrylics. Acrylic paint has been with me since few years. Before that I used watercolor extensively, but most of my work is in Poland right now. Color is the most important in my work. I think it has something to do with me not wearing colorful clothing since approximately 2 years.  During my University times I used to dress up like a Matrioschka and it was quite rediculus. I remember my friend asking me, if everything is fine with me. Now, the same or some Matrioshka ...

Saturday Inspiration

Posted by Marta Spendowska with Share Some Thoughts!

Share/Bookmark I just finished watching fascinating movie about Bill Cunningham. I feel sad, when I hear those two girls yelling at him :”Don’t take our pictures, I’ll brake your camera”. It’s obvious, that it might look suspicious in todays world. Such a passionate person wearing simple clothes, but obsessing over shoes and women fashion shows.
Lisa is brilliant. I admire her going back to scholl in her 30s and getting the stunning career rolling so quickly. I’m taking her painting class right now and loving the approach.
Christmas is almost here. I hope my hubby sees this post and I’ll find Gemma’s ring on my finger in december. Or — I’ll skip dickblick for a while…

Jules Verne Day.

Posted by Marta Spendowska with Share Some Thoughts!

Share/BookmarkToday is the “Jules Verne Day”. Google went artistic interactive and blue.
He always fastinated me. Maybe not as much as Jonathan Swift, but I used to read his with Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea with a watery eyes.
“You like the sea, Captain?”
“Yes; I love it! The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the ‘Living Infinite,’ as one of your poets has said. In fact, Professor, Nature manifests herself in it by her three kingdoms–mineral, vegetable, and animal. The sea is the vast reservoir of Nature. The globe began with sea, so to speak; and who knows if it will not ...

ALEXA MEADE — PAINTER OF PEOPLE

Posted by Marta Spendowska with 1 Comment

Share/BookmarkWhile Meade has worked in a variety of sculptural media, she is known for her installations, which feature models situated in tableau scenes painted to look like two-dimensional paintings.
I paint representational portraits directly on top of the people I am representing. The models are transformed into embodiments of the artist’s interpretation of their essence. When captured on film, the living, breathing people underneath the paint disappear, overshadowed by the masks of themselves. Pretty cool.

Moleskine // 2011.

Posted by Marta Spendowska with Share Some Thoughts!

Share/BookmarkMoleskine 2011 calendar arrived. It’s 9:13pm. I can’t wait to give them to my busy husband. Yes, we still didn’t exchange all the gifts.
I have a set for myself. They are simple, small, pocket sized planners, different color for each month. Sometime last year I was thinking about buying the set, but it wouldn’t make any sense to spend 40 bucks for 5 or so months.
This is also a reason why I can’t wait till the first of January 2011.

UPDATE : My husband loves it. We both are going to try it out this year. Also, I’m going to email Moleskine with a small suggestion for  making 6 books instead of 12; it would be even easier to carry with you 2 months at once.

All about vulva

Posted by Marta Spendowska with Share Some Thoughts!

Share/BookmarkVulva jewelry is not discrete. Although I don’t think that wearing pink vagina art is necessary (hmm… still thinking about it), I admit that the pieces are cute. I mind the pink though.
Interesting store by : VulvaLoveLovely.
