Marta Spendowska

Currently I am working on an album design for People From Venus ( a front man was a first frontmen of Muse ).
Also I am an illustrator for an online design / fashion magazine WASABI FASHION KULT.

I am inspired by isolation.

I draw on memories of growing up as a rebellious daughter of a mother that spent her young years in communism. She dealt with it on her own, I had to draw and eventually I sank deeply into Art. I work from personal snapshots or images from the web that I collage before I start drawing.
My work is something between impulse and order. Sketches are usually messy, but the finished piece seems very clean, organized and even reserved.
In art I am interested in unseen sexuality, revolution and revelation of the body - female body the most.
Comic figuration, feminism, cross-sexuality, struggle were always my fascination. Attractive and at the same time grotesque people are the ones that make me play with ideas on paper.
Graphic Design became my love a while ago, but I was not even aware of it. Nobody enlightened me what it really means, so I have always called it Art.
Today I can say that my way to it was ordinary - from drawing, making illustrations to Graphic Design that I see as a tool to communicate with others instead of being absorbed with self-attention.
Art is good. Art is necessary. Graphic Design is an extension of my Art and sheds a brighter light on it.
Somehow - once I'm finished - I know I have sent a message to others with no need for explanation.
